4 October 2007
This is my lot 20 & 20a consignment to Todd Smith's
sale on October 13, 2007. This picture was taken about 8/15/07. The cow is
4 months safe in calf to the same bull, JWest's W W Doc. Doc is really
doing a good job for us and so far has been the easiest calving bull I
have ever owned. Blood line goes back to what I was breeding in mid
1990's. Doc's mother is half sister to Popeye.

Thanks to Joe Bigbee, Ravenna, Texas
for this week's picture. This is most of his herd, the rest were still in
the trees. Joe is my neighbor, 10 miles away, and as a testimonial for
websites that is the way he found me. Got his start with two cows a few
years back. I thought it would be cool if I slipped over to his pasture
while he was at work, took a few pictures and surprised him. Boy am
I glad I didn't have a trailer with me. Somebody squealed and Joe knew
someone was in his pasture taking pictures before I got back home. How
long does it take to drive 10 miles in open country? I did see a few I
would like to have but and honestly, Joe I did not have a trailer with me.

Kyle & Myriah.
Kyle is Linda Hohenwald's Grandson. Myriah
is a pest . . . a very pretty pest. She is 3.5 months old here and the
marks all over our 12 1/2 year old grandson's shirt is from her grabbing
his shirt. He has decided this is his heifer. She is super friendly and
absolutely beautiful and they have bonded. As you can see we finally got
some much needed rain and now the fields are mud. I guess that is better
than cement!

Thanks to Jan & Gary Herrell from
Montalba, Texas for this weeks picture. This is one of their high gaining
British White Bulls. This bull was born on 1/3/07 and is about 6 1/2
months old in picture. His adjusted 205 weight is 651, sired by JWest's
Ambassador. Jan's email with the picture suggested that he should make
someone a good herd bull so I'm guessing he may be for sale. You can
contact Jan & Gary at 903-549-2363. Notice how green that Texas Grass is
in mid-summer 2007, very unusual.

Finder's Keepers! A
beautiful bull calf born 8-4-07
and here he is almost a day old. I had to find this one as she hid him
well. Our bull is putting out awesome calves this year and all standard
marked. This is about the only greenery we have around here these days
and most likely a cool spot for him. We are still desperately waiting for
rain and if things stay the same we will not get a second hay crop. I
think you should send us some of your Texas
rain!
Thanks to Linda Hohenwald, RLC Farms in Minnesota for
this weeks picture.

2 August 2007
This picture was taken just outside my
back door about noon on August 1, 2007. Notice how thick and dense the
greenery is. We have had an excellent growing year, in fact I don't ever
remember everything so green and lush this late in the year. We enjoyed
excellent rains all through June and July even received a little over 4
inches combined on July 30 & 31. And in another 30 days we will be getting
into a more perceived rainy season in our part of the world. I think we
have had more rain in the first seven months of 2007 than in the previous
two years combined. |

26 July 2007
This week's picture is from Christina
Traeger in Minnesota where she is apparently having a "Texas Summer", hot
and dry. Grass is already getting sparse, cows are looking for shade trees
and Bells, Texas has been getting all the rain this year. Call Christina
on 320-845-2777 or cell 320-293-2995 for more information about her cattle
or upcoming sale.

19 July 2007
This cow is Daisy, a retired show
heifer with her second calf at her side. They just recently found a new
and better home in Alabama and I bet they are glad to get on solid ground
for a change.
Nothing to do with the picture but July
is a real milestone for me, I moved to Bells, Texas on July 19, 1943. May
just decide to make it our home.

12 July 2007
This
week's picture comes from Christina Traeger. Her only comment was: "Do you
ever feel like you are being watched?" My guess is they have been reading
Christina's mail and wondering which of us is she going to put on the sale
block.
From Christina's mail. "
Yes we
do plan to have a sale. October 27, 2007; sale time to be announced.
There will be at least 20 weaned heifers, a few cow/calf pairs, some bred
cows, a few bred heifers, a couple open 14-16 month old heifers, and
several weaned bulls totaling over 40 head. All potential buyers should
let us know by Sept 15 so the appropriate health requirements are met for
the state. We plan to have a barn dance that evening at our Ranch, and
loading cattle Sunday. Families Welcome! Call
Christina on 320-845-2777 or cell 320-293-2995 for more information.

Our current herd bull,
JWest's W.W.Doc. Picture taken 7/4/07 about 5:30 PM. Doc is a real easy
keeper kind of bull. Notice his current working condition and he has been
out with the cows a little over a month.

28 June 2007
Quite a large herd of British White
Cattle near Avon, Minnesota. Picture furnished by
Christina Traeger,
320-845-2777. How many are there? Don't really know I tried counting
their legs and dividing by 4. Must be an easier way! So I just guessed,
must be over 150 head.

Yes Mother
Have you ever wished you could tell for sure if they are communicating
with each other and just what they are discussing. Can't help but wonder
if you could figure it out if you backed off a distance and quietly
observed them for an hour or so after something like this? This baby is 3
weeks old, born real small but appears to be growing off really good. Time
will tell for sure. This is our newest born by our new herd bull, JWEST's
W.W. Doc. Only ten by him so far and all have been marked almost identical
to this one and weighing in the low 60's. If he can continue this trend
consistently we may brag about his easy calving ability. Also my first
year in several without an overmarked calf. Doc's mother is a half sister
to Popeye, both being out of a previous Halliburton Farms owned herd bull,
MR NOY 7F.

14 June 2007
A brand new baby heifer. She is
actually thinking about getting up early in the morning a couple days ago.
This makes 10 calves in a row by our new Herd Bull (JWest's W W Doc) that
have been standard marked and birth weight in the low 60's. First year in
many that we have not had a few overmarked calves.

31 May 2007
Spring time in Texas, lots of grass, a
full stomach and plenty of time to rest between rain storms. We have a
really nice looking calf crop this year, all are pretty near perfect
marked and all have excellent dispositions. Most of the calves in this
picture are about two months old.

24 May 2007
Even cattle need a little Rest &
Relaxation, but in a place like this? Do you know of another breed that
would be so relaxed and peaceful with a grumpy guy with a camera stomping
in amongst them in an environment like this? I guarantee you there was
nothing comfortable about ducking and crawling to get in a position to
take this picture and the cattle were still there when I left. Talk about
a docile breed all you want but British Whites can't be beat.
|

17 May 2007
This is a picture of our herd sire that I took
yesterday. He is one of those that wants you lo rub and scratch on him and
if you don't then he wants to rub on you. Not always easy to get a decent
picture with him always in your face but it is fun when you are hidden
behind your camera with looking through the shutter and wondering how fast
he will get to you. This bull's mother is a half sister to the Popeye bull
and will be 3 years old this fall. I believe he is thicker at this age
than Popeye was. He was bred by JWest Cattle Co., name is JWest's W W Doc.

10 May 2007
This picture was taken 5/9/07 about
11:30 am. It is a mother/daughter pair. Mom is a first calf heifer and the
baby was born 3/30/07. I thought the dark background made for a very
unusual picture, looks like dark in the middle of the day. It was because
they were laying in a grove of cedar trees with only one opening to the
North Sky that let the light in. They are are as gentle as it looks, I was
standing within a few feet of them and they never did get up. The whole
herd was gathered in the same grove of trees, a really peaceful scene.
I must have spent the bigger part of an hour just milling around amongst
the group, what a life.
|

3 May 2007
A really nice Embryo Transfer heifer,
she is just a little over one year old and ready to be bred for her first
calf. She is believed to be one of the very few animals alive today that
are sired by Woodbastwick Statesman.

26 April 2007
How peaceful, five babies and a sitter.
A really good year for color at Halliburton Farms. This picture was taken
about 4pm on 4/25/07 as I was walking the pastures on foot because we had
a five inch rain the afternoon and night before. It was the biggest rain
we have had in several years and much needed and appreciated. As you can
tell even the cattle are appreciative.

19 April 2007
Spring is the best time of year if you
are in the British White Cattle business. Nothing more exciting than
looking for baby calves after their mom hides them out and boy do you find
them in some unsuspecting places. But why deep in the woods in a pile of
sticks?
|

12 April 2007
What a wonderful time of year at the
old British White Home Place. It is always exciting times to walk out your
front door and see something like this looking through the fence at you.
Nothing prettier than a white calf with black ears, eyes and nose standing
in green grass, especially if it is trying to look into your front window.
For the first time in several years everyone of our spring calves are
colored just like this, probably thanks to their sire JWEST's W.W. Doc.
His sire was a bull called Watson but nick named Doc and his sire was a
Halliburton bred cow named Wilma. Wilma was a half sister to Popeye.
|

5 April 2007
Thanks to JWest Cattle, Colmesneil,
Texas for this nice early Texas springtime picture. Note that came with
picture says: Elvis x Wanda Mae heifer in White Clover. She seems well
settle in her spot and refused to cooperate with the move of the rest of
the herd to the Sawmill pasture. I agree with the heifer, why leave such a
paradise, especially after a long hard winter.
